    Ingredients

  • 8 oz tempeh (cut into 1/4 inch strips)
  • 1/2 onion (sliced)
  • 1/4 c olive oil
  • 1 c BBQ sauce
  • 2-3 hamburger buns
BBQ Tempeh Sandwiches

One of the few things that I miss from going vegetarian is a good beef brisket sandwich. It's not the beef though, it's the BBQ sauce. The beef just seemed to have a good texture that would absorb the BBQ sauce and work well in sandwich form.

This is better! All of the flavor, none of the beef. Best part is that you won't bite into a big glob of beef fat. Even your carnivorous boyfriend or girlfriend may actually like this little gem.

I usually make 2 sandwiches out of this recipe but you may get 3 out of it depending on how you slice the tempeh.

  1. Heat olive oil in a frying pan at medium-low. Add the onion and tempeh strips and fry for 5-10 minutes or until much of the olive oil is absorbed and the tempeh starts to brown. Be very careful not to smoke the olive oil since it won't taste or smell good if you do.

  2. Cover the tempeh with BBQ sauce, lower heat and simmer for 2 more minutes.

  3. Serve on a toasted hamburger bun.
